삼손 이야기의 서막 사사기 13장

사사기 13장은 너무도 유명한 삼손 이야기의 서막이 시작됩니다. 삼손의 출생 예고와 그에 얽힌 하나님의 계획이 중심 내용입니다. 성경에 몇 안 되는 기적적인 탄생 예고 중 하나로 성경적 상징과 예언적 흐름이 짙게 깔려있는 장면입니다.

 

삼손의 부모

1. And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, so the Lord gave them into the hand of the Philistines for forty years.

 

이스라엘 백성들은 연이어 악행을 저지르고 다녔고 그래서 블레셋 사람들의 치하에 40년을 고통받게 살게 합니다. 자유를 얻었어도 어게인 노예 생활을 반복하는 것이 참으로 개탄스럽습니다. 거의 유전처럼 노예의 피가 흐르는 것은 어쩔 수 없나 봅니다.

 

 2 There was a certain man of Zorah, of the tribe of the Danites, whose name was Manoah. AND HIS WIFE WAS BARREN AND HAD NO CHILDREN. 3 And the angel of the Lord appeared to the woman and said to her, "Behold, you are barren and have not borne children, but you shall conceive and bear a son.

 

단 지파의 마노아라는 남자가 있고 그의 아내는 아이를 낳지 못하는 불임 여성이었다고 합니다. 그런데 또 여호와의 사자가 나타나 아들을 낳을 거라고 예고했다고 합니다. 이들 부부가 노부부란 언급은 없지만 불임을 언급하는 정황상 고령을 배제할 순 없을 것 같습니다. 이렇게 마노아 부부는 마치 일부러 그런 듯 아브라함 부부를 연상케 하는데요. 소재가 떨어졌나? 아무튼, 아들을 낳을 거라고 하는데요.

 

 

4 Therefore be careful and drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean, 5 for behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. No razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb, and he shall begin to save Israel from the hand of the Philistines." 6 Then the woman came and told her husband, " A man of God came to me, and his appearance was like the appearance of the angel of God, very awesome. I did not ask him where he was from, and he did not tell me his nae, 7 but he said to me, 'Behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. So then drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb to the day of his death.;"

 

그러므로 와인이나 독주를 마시지도 말고 불결한 음식은 먹지도 말라고 합니다.  그런데 아들을 낳으면 머리를 자르지 말라고 하는데요. 그 아이는 태어나면서부터 하나님께 바쳐진 나실인이 될 것이며 그가 이스라엘을 블레셋 손에서 구원하기 시작할 거라고 합니다. 당시 포도주는 일상 음료였기에 이를 끊는다는 것은 일상 전체를 거룩함으로 전환하는 상징 행위였던 겁니다. 

아무튼 이 아이는 나실인으로 태어나게 되는 운명이었습니다. 나실인에 관해서는 민수기 6장에 자세히 나와 있습니다. 나실인으로 태어날 운명이며 불임 부부에게 아이를 점지했다는 것은 신의 개입이 아니면 설명이 안 되는 거죠. 그런데 어떤 개입을 하였을 까요? 게다가 그 어마무시한 괴력으로 태어나게 된다면 확실히 냄새가 납니다. 

 

 

나실인은 유전자 변형으로 조작된 신의 개입이 아닌가 하는 생각이 들 정도입니다.

 신비한 방문자 마노아의 반응과 기도

8 Then Manoah prayed to the Lord and said, "O Lord, please let the man of God whom you sent come again to us and teach us what we are to do with the child who will be born." 9 AND God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field. But Manoah her husband was not with her. 10 So the woman ran quickly and told her husband, "Behold, the man who came to me the other day has appeared to me." 11 And Manoah arose and went after his wife and came to the man and said to him, "Are you the man who spoke to this woman?" And he said, " I am." 12 And Manoah said, "Now when your words come true, what is to be the child's manner of life, and what is his mission?" 13 And the angel of the Lord said to Manoah, "Of all that I said to the woman let her be careful. 14 She may not eat of anything that comes from the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, or eat any unclean thing. All that I commanded her let her onserve."

 

그리고 마노아가 여호와께 기도를 합니다. 아이를 어찌할지 가르쳐 달라고. 그러자 하나님이 기도를 들으시고 사자를 보냈는데 그때는 또 마노아가 없고 아내만 있었다고 하네요. 상당히 불륜적 색채가 짙게 느껴집니다. 사실 창세기때도 하나님이 개입해서 아이가 태어났다고 했잖아요. 그리고 사자가 와서 하는 말이라고는 이전에 했던 포도주 및 독주 먹지 말라고 한 내용 밖엔 없잖아요? 뭔가를 주입하러 온 게 아니었을까요?

 

 

 천사와의 대화

15 Manoah said to the angel of the Lord, "Please let us detain you and prepare a young goat for you." 16 And the angel of the Lord said to Manoah, "If you detain me, I will not eat of your food. BUT IF you prepare a burnt offering, then offer it to the Lord." (For Manoah did not know that he was the angel of the Lord) 17 And Manoah said to the angel of the Lord, "What is your name, so that, when your words come true, we may honour you?" 18 ANd the angel of the Lord said to him, "Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful?" 19 So Manoah took the young goat with the grain offering, and offered it on the rock to the Lord, to the one who works wonders, and Manoah and his wife were watching. 20 AND when the flame went up towards heaven from the altar, the angel of the Lord went up in the flame of the altar. Now Manoah and his wife were watching and they fell on their faces to the ground.

 

그리고 마노아가 언제 들어왔는지, 사자를 보고 염소 새끼를 대접하겠다고 하니 안 먹는다며 번제를 하면 받겠다고 합니다. 이건 일종의 경계를 의미합니다. 이전에는 인간이 주는 음식을 곧잘 먹었다고 합니다. 창세기 18장에도 나오고요. 물리적으로 음식을 섭취했는데 어느 순간부터 초월적 이미지로 거듭난 모양입니다. 그리고 마노아가 사자의 이름을 묻습니다. 일이 이루어질 때 당신을 공경하겠습니다,라고 합니다. 그러자 사자가 하는 말이 어찌해서 내 이름을 묻느냐? 보기에 굉장해 보이냐고 묻습니다. 이에 관한 해석은 분분합니다. 그냥 한글 성경에는 기이함이라고 대답을 하는 것 같은데요. 네가 그걸 왜 물어? 약간 그런 뉘앙스입니다. 히브리어 원문에는 펠레라고 표현하였는데요. 그 뜻이 기묘자라고 합니다. 그냥 기묘한 존재라는 것이죠. 아무래도 기이한 생김새를 한 것 같다는 생각이 듭니다. 음식을 먹지도 못하는 존재에게 음식을 접대하려고 하고 이름도 없는 자에게 이름을 물으니 신의 사자가 황당해서 간 걸로 이해하겠습니다. 

 

 

그리고 신의 사자가 하늘로 올라갔다고 하였는데요. 마노아는 비로소 우리가 하나님을 보았다라고 인식합니다. 그러니까 실제 신이 왔다 간 것이죠. 즉, 의식의 빛줄기, 신의 빛줄기가 왔다 간 것이죠.  결론은 하나님이 직접 왔다가 인간이 이해하지 못한 채 떠난 사건처럼 보입니다. 

 

21 The angel of the Lord appeared no more to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of the Lord. 22 ANd Manoah said to his wife, "We shall surely die, for we have seen God." 23 But his wife said to him, "If the Lord had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering at our hands, or shown us all these things, or now announced to us such things as these." 24 And the woman bore a son and called his name Samson. And the young man grew, and the Lord blessed him. 25 And the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him in Mananeh-dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.

 

역시나 뒤늦게 마노아와 그의 와이프는 신이 왔다 가심을 알게 됩니다. 그러나 이들은 하나님을 보았으니 반드시 죽을 거라고 두려워합니다. 고대 이스라엘 사상에서는 하나님을 직접 보면 죽는다는 인식이 강했다고 하네요. 그러니까 하나님은 하나님의 사자를 가장해서 인간에게 나타난 진짜 신이었습니다.

 

결론:

사사기 13장은 삼손의 출생 배경이 중요한 것이 아닌 하나님이 현현한 것이 포인트같습니다. 뭔가 특별한 생명의 탄생을 암시하는 데요. 마치 창세기 이후 시즌 2를 맞이하는 기분입니다.
