기묘하기 짝이없는 삼손의 결혼 이야기 사사기 14장

사사기 14장은 삼손이 결혼을 허락받고 결혼을 하기 위해 블레셋으로 가는 길에 사자를 만나 사자를 찢고, 블레셋 사람들을 죽이고 다시 돌아오는 내용인데요. 전반적으로 내용이 기묘합니다.

 

블레셋 여인을 사랑한 삼손

1 Samson went down to Timnah, and at Timnah he saw one of the daughters of the Philistines. 2 Then he came up and told his father and mother, " I saw one of the daughters of the Philistines at Timnah. Now get her for me as me wife." 3 But his father and mother said to him, "Is there not a woman among the daughters of your relatives, or among all our people, that you must go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?" But Samson said to his father, "Get her for me, for she is right in my eyes."

 

딤나 지역

 

삼손은 블레셋 지역의 딤나에서 한 여인을 보고 첫 눈에 반하게 됩니다. 그래서 부모에게 가서 그녀와 결혼하고 싶다고 하니 당연히 부모가 반대를 합니다. 당시에 블레셋 사람들의 지배를 받던 이스라엘 민족이지 당연히 원수의 딸인 데다, 이스라엘 민족은 특히 이방인과 결혼은 금지하고 있는 걸로 알고 있는데요. 특히나 삼손이 어떤 아들입니까? 하나님이 미리 점지한 나실인의 숙명을 지닌 자인데 가당치도 않는 소리였죠. 그런데 하나님은 왜 이런 상황을 뻔히 알면서도 시험에 들게 했을까요?

 

 

그리고 get her for me, for she is right in my eyes, 는 삼손이 부모에게 내 눈에 옳으니까 데려오라고 하는 건데 얼핏 들으면 마치 부모가 자식에게 한 소리인 줄 알겠어요. 이게 무슨 땡깡도 아니고 자기가 데려온다는 것도 아니고 데려오라는 게 참.... 그런데 이게 또 미묘한 복선이기도 한 것이 자기 눈에 옳다고 하지만 나중에 그 눈을 잃게 되는 것이지, 얼핏 수동태처럼 느껴지는 강한 능동 명령문으로 쓴 게 아닌가 합니다.

 

4 His father and mother did not know that it was from the Lord, for he was seeking an opportunity against the PHIlistines ruled over Israel.

 

4절의 신학적 해석은 좀 어이가 없습니다. 마치 하나님이 삼손에게 증오심을 계속 주입시킨 것처럼 느껴지거든요. 이에 관해서 인간은 감정이 없이는 움직이지 않기 때문에 삼손에게 강한 욕망가 분노를 주입해야 블레셋을 꺾을 수 있다고 본 것입니다. 하여튼 이해가 안 갑니다.

5. Then Samson wwent down with his father and mother to Timnah, and they came to the vineyards of Timnah. And behold, a young lion came towards him roaring. 6 Then the spirit of the Lord rushed upon him,  and although he had nothing in his hand, he tore the lion in pieces as one tears a young goat, But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done. 7 Then he went down and talked with the woman, and she was right in Samson's eyes

 

 8 After some days he returned to take her. And he truned aside to see the carcass of the lion, and behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey. 9 He scraped it out into his hands and went on, eating as he went. AND he came to his father and mother and gave some to them, and they ate. But he did not tell them that he had scraped the honey frotm the carcass of the lion.

 

삼손은 부모를 데리고 딤나로 갑니다. 부모도 삼손을 당할 수가 없었는지 일단 한번 보자고 했던 것 같은데요. 이들이 포도원 근처에 이르렀을 때 젊은 사자 한 마리가 으르렁 거리며 달려옵니다. 참고로 나실인은 포도주나 포도가 금지 식품인데 포도원 앞에서 사자를 만난 것도 공교로워 보입니다. 그리고 삼손은 맨손으로 어린 사자를 찢어 죽입니다. 그런데 그 사실을 부모한테는 말하지 않았습니다. 부모와 함께 갔다더니만 혼자 샛길로 빠졌나 봅니다. 정황상 삼손이 포도원 쪽으로 걸음을 옮긴 것으로 보이죠? 그런데 왜 삼손은 그 사실을 부모에게 말하지 않은 걸까요? 6절이 인상적인 것이 그 순간 하나님의 영이 임했다고 합니다. 그 순간 삼손은 괴력을 발휘한 것이죠. 그리고 그는 이 이상한 체험을 침묵으로 일관합니다. 모세가 떨기나무를 본 후 침묵했던 것처럼요.

 

 

수수께끼를 풀어라

 

10 His father went down to the woman, and Samon prepared a feast there, for so the young men used to do. 11 As soon as the people saw him, they brought thirty companions to be with him. 12 AND Samson said to them, tell me what it is, within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you clothes, 13 but if you cannot tell me what it is, and thirty changes of clothes." AND they said to him, "Put your riddle, that we may hear it." 14 And he said to them, "OUT of the eater came something to ea. OUt of the strong came something sweet."

 And in three days they could not solve the riddle.

 

단순히 여자를 보러 간 것이 아닌, 혼인까지 시킬 요량이었나 봅니다. 블레셋 스타일로 혼례 준비를 하는 가운데 그곳에는 친구 하나가 없으니 신부 측에서 약 서른 명의 사람들을 붙여 줍니다. 일종의 감시 차원인 것 같은데요. 그곳에서 소외자이면서 이방인에 가까웠으니 삼손은 자신은 너희와 다르다고 생각한 것인지, 생뚱맞게 수수께끼를 낼 테니 풀어 보라고 합니다. 그러면서 먹는 자에게서 먹는 것이 나오고 강한 자에게서 단 것이 나왔다고 합니다. 그게 뭐냐고 하면서 못 맞추면 자신이 30명을 위해 옷을 30벌 준다고 합니다. 못 맞히면 그들이 삼손에게 옷을 30벌 줘야 하고요.

 

 

꼭지가 돌아버린 삼손

15 On the fourth day they said to Samson's wife, "Entice your husband to tell us what the riddle is, lest we burn you and your father's house with fire. Have you invited us here to impoverish us?" 16 And Samson's wife wept, over him and said, "You only hate me; you do not love me. You have put a riddle to my people, and you have not told me what it is." And he said to her, "Behold, I have not told my father nor my mother, and shall I tell you?" 17 She wept before him for the seven days that their feast lasted, and on the seventh day he told her, because she pressed him hard. Then she told the riddle to her people. 18 And the men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, 

 "What is sweeter than honey? What it stronger than a lion?" 

 And he said to them "If you had not ploughed with my heifer you would not have found out my riddle."

 

19 And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon him and he went down to Ashkelon and struck down thirty men of the town and took their spoil and gave the gaments to those who had explained the riddle. In hot anger he went back to his father's house. 20. And Samson's wife was given to his companion , who had been his best man. 

 

블레셋 사람들은 삼손의 아내를 협박해서 수수께끼 답을 알아 오라고 합니다. 이미 결혼은 했나 봅니다. 아무튼, 왜 저리 목숨을 걸고 저러나 싶었는데 고대 사회에 옷은 엄청 귀한 재산이며 사회적 지위의 상징을 의미하였습니다. 그리고 돈 문제를 떠나서 단순히 돈 문제가 아닌 수치심과 체면 그리고 위신의 문제였습니다. 게다가 블레셋 사람들 입장에서 이방인에게 지는 것은 체면의 문제였기에 엄청나게 이기려고 노력한 모양입니다. 

 

 

아무튼, 그래서 삼손 아내가 당신은 날 사랑하지 않는가 보다며 정보를 달라고 합니다. 그러자 삼손은 자기가 부모한테도 말 안 했는데 너한테 왜 말하겠냐고 합니다. 아내는 잔치 기간 7일 내내 울었고요. 마지막 날 삼손은 마음이 약해져서 아내에게 답을 말해주고 아내는 블레셋 친구들에게 알려줍니다. 

 

18절에 답을 맞히는데 무엇이 꿀보다 달겠으며 무엇이 사자보다 강하겠느냐고 합니다. 삼손은 아내를 통해 정보를 알아낸 것을 간파합니다. 자기 아내를 암송아지라고 비하한 것을 보면 삼손도 인간 말종 같네요. 19절에는 또 하나님의 영이 삼손에게 임하였다고 하는데요. 포도원 사건도 그렇고 그냥 꼭지가 돌았다고 표현하는 것이 맞아 보입니다. 삼손은 아스글론에 내려가 블레셋 30명 모두를 죽이고 그들의 옷을 벗겨 수수께끼 값이라며 주고 분노한 채로 고향 집으로 돌아갑니다. 신랑인데 신부마저 두고 떠나온 것이죠. 그리고는 자신의 와이프는 그 잔치에 동반자였던 친구에게 줘버립니다. 제정신인가 싶습니다.
