동굴로 피신한 다윗 사무엘상 22장

사무엘상 22장은 다윗의 고난과 리더십, 그리고 사울의 폭력적인 통치가 어떻게 이스라엘 역사에 영향을 미쳤는지 서막처럼 비춰주고 있습니다.

1. 아둘람 굴로 도망친 다윗

다윗은 아둘람 굴로 도망칩니다. 그리고 그의 아버지와 형제들이 굴로 모여들고 사회적 약자들이 그를 따라 굴에 모여 살게 됩니다. 

1.David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father's house heard it, they went down there to him. 2 ANd everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was bitter in soul, gathered to him. ANd he became captain over them. And there were with him about four hundred men.

2. 모압왕에게 부탁하다

약 400명이 동굴에 모여 살게 되자 다윗은 모압왕에게 가족을 부탁하게 됩니다. 이스라엘과 여러모로 긴장 관계에 놓인 이방 민족이었는데 다윗이 뭘 믿고 부탁했던 걸까요? 알고 보면 다윗도 모압 혈통이었기 때문입니다. 다윗의 증조모가 모압 여인이란 것 룻기에 등장하죠. 그리고 다윗왕 서사를 만들기 위해 굳이 별로 중요하지도 않은 룻기를 짧게 삽입한 것입니다.

 

3. And David went from there to Mizpeh of MOAB. And he said to the king of Moab, "PLease let my father and my mother stay-with you, till I know what God will do for me."

4. And he left them with the king of Moab, and they stayed with him all the time that David was in the stronghold. 5. Then the prophet Gad said to David, "Do not remain in the stronghold; bepart, and go into the land of Judah." So David departed and went into the forest of Hereth.

 

성경에는 하나님이 이방민족도 거두었다는 식으로 교세 확장용 워딩을 한 것일지도 모르겠지만요. 그 선민사상이라던가 순혈주의가 사실 아무 의미도 없다는 것을 성경은 곳곳에서 보여주고 있습니다.

3. 도엑의 고자질을 들은 사울

다윗은 동굴에서 약 10년 정도 숨어 지낸 것 같습니다. 15~17세 정도에 기름부음을 받았고 사울의 하프 연주자로 사랑을 받다가 골리앗 죽인 후 질투를 사고 그렇게 도망쳐서 굴로 들어가 지낸 세월이 십 년이라고 합니다. 이 역시도 성경의 반복되는 서사 패턴으로 보입니다.

 

6. Now Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men who were with him. Saul was sitting at Gibeah under the tamarisk tree on the height with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him. 7. And Saul said to his servants who stood about him, "Hear now, people of Benjamin; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, will he make you all commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, 8 that all of you have conspired against me? No one ciscloses to me when my son makes a covenant with the son of Jesse. None of you is sorry for me or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day." 9 THEN answered Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, " I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, 10 and he enquired of the LORD For him and gave him provisions and gave him the sword of Goliath the PHilistine."

 

아무튼, 다시 다윗이 동굴에서 지내고 있는 동안 사울은 에돔 사람 도엑으로부터 제사장이 그를 도와준 얘기를 합니다. 그러자 사울은 지속해서 질투를 주체하지 못하고 있었고요. 일은 안 하고 다윗만 찾아다닌 모양입니다. 미치광이가 따로 없어 보이네요.

4. 처단의 시작

도엑에게 얘기를 들은 사울은 아히멜렉과 제사장들을 불러서 추궁하고 학살을 시작합니다. 제사장들 85명을 학살하고 그의 가족 모두를 처단한 가운데 어린아이는 물론 젖먹이 소, 나귀 가축 등을 모두 칼로 죽입니다. 

 

 11 Then the king sent to summon Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests who were at Nob, and all of them came to the king. 12 And Saul said, "Hear now, son of Ahitub." And he answered, "Here I am, my lord." 13 And SAul said to him, "Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword and have enquired of  God for him, so that he has risen against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?" 14 Then Ahimelech answered the kind, "And who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and captain over your bodyguard, and honoured in your house? 15 Is today the first time that I have enquired of God for him? No! Let not the king impute anything to his servant or to all the house of my father, for your servant has known nothing of all this, much or little."

 

16 And the king said, "You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father's house."17 ANd the king said to the guard who stood about him, "Turn and kill the priests of the LORD, BECAUSE THEIR HAND ALSO IS WITH David, and they knew that he fled and did not disclose it to me." But the servants of the king would not put out their hand to strike the priests of the Lord. 18 THen the king said to Doeg, "You turn and strike the priests." And Doeg the Edomite turned and struck down the priests, and he killed on that day eightyfive persons who wore the linen ephod. 19 ANd Nob, the city of the priests, he put to the sword; both man and woman, child and infant, ox, donkey and sheep, he put to the sword.

 

다윗이 아무리 잘못을 했다해도 저렇게까지 상관없는 사람들을 처단하니 민심도 잃고 폭정에 몰락이 예고된 것이었겠죠. 권력을 이렇게 함부로 쓰면 안 되는 겁니다. 

5. 아비아달만 살아남다

그렇게 피의 학살이 시작된 가운데 제사장 아히멜렉의 아들 아비아달만이 살아남아 다윗에게로 갑니다. 그리고 다윗에게 모든 것을 말합니다. 다윗은 에돔 사람 도엑이 거기 있던 것을 기억하며 그가 왕에게 말할 줄 알았다고 합니다. 그러나 아들 아비아달도 감정이 좋을 수가 없었습니다. 다윗더러 아버지의 집안 생명을 잃게 한 장본인이라고 원망합니다.

 

다윗은 두려워하지 말라며 내 생명을 찾는 자가 네 생명도 찾는 자니 네가 나와 함께 있으면 안전하리라,라고 말합니다. 너무나 당연한 행동이었죠. 다윗이 아비아달 집안에게 빚을 졌으니 당연히 책임을 져야죠.

 

20. But one of the sons of AHIMELECH THE SON OF Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped and fled after Daid. 21 And Abiathar told David that Saul had killed the priests of the LOrd. 22 AND DAvid said to Abiathar, "I Knew on that day,  when DOEG the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I have occasioned the death of all the persons of your father's house. 23 Stay with me; do not be afraid, for he who seeks my life seeks your life. With me you shall be safekeeping."
