다윗은 도망가고 질투에 미쳐버린 사울왕에 관한 이야기 사무엘상 19장

사무엘상 19장은 사울의 다윗에 대한 살의가 점점 더 집요해지고, 심지어 가족(요나단, 미갈)까지 다윗 편을 들게 만드는 상황입니다. 그리고 마지막에는 옷을 벗고 날뛰는 등 완전히 통제불능 상태가 되는 거죠.

1. 사울은 다윗을 죽이려 가고

질투와 분노에 눈이 먼 사울은 눈에 불을 켜고 다윗을 죽이려고 작정합니다. 그런데 다윗의 절친 요나단이 사울을 적극적으로 만류하고 사울은 알았다며 분노를 잠재우고 다윗을 죽이지 않겠다고 맹세합니다.

 

1. And Saul spoke to Jonathan his son and to all his servants, that they should kill David. But Jonathan, Saul's son, delighted much in David. 2 And Jonathan told David, "Saul my father seeks to kill you. Therefore be on your guard in the morning, Stay in a secret place and hide yourself. 3. And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will speak to my father about you." 4. AND Jonathan spoke well of David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his deeds have brought good to you. 5. For he took his life in his hand and he struck down the Philistine, and the Lord worked a great salvation for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced, Why then will you sin against innocent blood by killing David without cause?" 6 And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan. Saul swore,"As the LOrd lives, he shall not be put to death." 7 ANd Jonathan called David, and Jonathan reported to him all these things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as before.

2. 맹세는 번복되고

다윗은 지속해서 승승장구합니다. 전장에 나가 승리를 하고 돌아오자 격려는 못해 줄 망정 죽이려고 길길이 날뛰는 모습이 참으로 가관입니다. 본래 왕이란 그렇게 질투가 많은 자리인가 봅니다.

 

8. And there was war again. ANd David went out and fought with the PHIlistines and struck them with a great blow, so that they fled before him. 9. Then a harmful sprit from the LOrd came upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing the lyre. 10 And Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he eluded Saul, so that he struck the spear into the wall. And DAVID fled and escaped that night.

3. 미갈의 도움

다윗을 죽이려고 달려드는 사울을 처음에는 요나단이 막아주고 두 번째는 아내 미갈이 막아줍니다. 미갈은 다윗에게 도망치라고 하고 다윗이 잠든 척 최대한 위장하고 시간을 끌려고 합니다. 그리고 다윗을 도망치게 한 이유를 설명하는데, 다윗이 자기를 위협해서 도망치게 했다고 지혜롭게 대처합니다. 

 

11. Saul sent messengers to David's house to watch him, that he might kill him in the morning. But Michal, David's wife, told him, "If you do not escape with your life tonight, tommorrow you will be killed." 12. So Michal let David down throught the window,  and he fled away and escaped. 13. Michal took an image and laid it on the bed and put a pillow of goats hair at its head and covered it with the clothes. 14 And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, "He is sick." 15 Then Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, "Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him." 16 AND when the messengers came in, behold, the image was in the bed, with the pillow, of goats' hair as its head, 17 Saul said to Michal, "Why have you deceived me thus and let my enemy go, so that he has escaped?" And Michal answered Saul, "He said to me, 'Let me go. Why should I kill you?"

4. 집단적 최면 현상의 문제

 

 

그렇게 다윗은 라마로 도망을 가서 사무엘을 만나고 사울은 조금 더 많이 미쳐간 것 같은데요. 예언자를 불러 다윗을 찾고, 그러다가 미쳐서 벌거 벗고 미쳐 날뛰었다는 건지 뭔지 모르겠습니다.

 

18. Now David fled and escaped, and he came to Samuel at Ramah and told him all that Saul had done to him. ANd he and Samuel went and lived at Naioth. 19 ANd it was told Saul, "Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah." 20 Then SAul sent messengers to take David, and when thew saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as head over them, the Sprit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied. 21. When it was told SAul, he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied, AND Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they also prophesied. 22 THen he himself went to Ramah and came to the great well that is in Secu. And he asked, "Where are Samuel and David?" AND one said, "Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah." 23 ANd he went there to Naioth in Ramah. ANd the spirit of God came upon him also, and as he went he prophesied until he came to Naioth in Ramah. 24 AND he too stripped off his clothes, and he too prophesied before Samuel and lay naked all that day and all that night. Thus it is said, "Is Saul also among the prophets?"

 

마지막 단락의 내용은 참으로 기묘합니다. 사울이 예언자를 통해서 다윗의 행방을 묻는 것부터, 예언자들은 집단 최면 같은 거에 빠져 있고 그런 사이 사울도 최면인지 뭔지 예언이랍시고 옷을 벗고 날뛰고 있는데 그것을 사무엘과 다윗이 목격했다? 이거 해석이 맞는지는 모르겠지만 상당히 기묘합니다.

 

사울 같은 경우는 원래 정신적으로 불안정한 상태였는데, 그런 강렬한 종교적 분위기에 노출되자 완전히 통제력을 잃은 것 같아요. 마치 현대의 일부 종교 집회에서 보는 "성령 체험" 같은 집단적 황홀경과 비슷할 수 있죠. 그런데 하나님이 원한 방식 같지는 않은데 어디서 그런 반응이 온 것인지 신기합니다.

 

이후에도 사울의 병적인 다윗에 대한 집착과 망상 거기에 하나님에게 답을 구하지 않고 무당을 찾아다니는 등 만행은 이어지나 봅니다.

마무리

사울의 다윗에 대한 집착, 그것도 죽이려고 달겨든 것은 질투 이상의 복잡한 이유들이 존재했습니다. 왕권 상실에 대한 공포가 상당히 컸던 것 같습니다. 사울 조차도 자신이 하나님께 버림 받았다는 것을 알아서 그는 더욱 더 집요하게 살아남기 위해 다윗을 죽이려고 했던 모양입니다.
