다윗의 고난과 지혜로운 처신? 사무엘상 21장

도피 중인 다윗이 제사장을 만나 거짓말로 둘러대고 떡과 무기를 얻은 후 적국 블레셋으로 가서 미치광이처럼 구는 모습을 두고 지혜로운 처신이라고 보기에는 좀 그렇지만 영리하고 순발력있는 캐릭터는 분명해 보입니다.

1. 아히멜렉 제사장을 만나다

그렇게 도피한 다윗은 놉에 있는 아히멜렉 제사장을 찾아갑니다. 제사장은 왜 혼자 있느냐고 물으며 이상하게 여기자 다윗은 왕의 명령을 수행중이라고 둘러댑니다. 그리고 배가 고팠던 다윗은 먹을 것을 요청하고 제사장은 일반떡은 없고 holy bread 거룩한 떡만 있다고 합니다.

그런데 말이 나와서 그러는데 빵인데 떡이라고 하는 것은 한국인의 이해를 돕기 위해 그리 번역한 것이겠죠? 

 

1.Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech the priest. ANd Ahimelech came to meet David trembling and said to him, "Why are you alone, and no one with you?" 2 And David said to Ahimelech the priest, "The king has charged me with a matter and said to me, 'Let no one know anything of the matter about which I send you, and with which I have charged you.'I have made an appointment with the young men for such and such a place. 3. Now then, what do you have at hand? Give me five loaves of bread, or whatever is here." 4 And the priest answered DAvid, "I have no common bread at hand, but there holy bread-if the young men have kept themselves from women." 5. And David answered the priest, "Truly women have been kept from us as always when I go on an expedition. The vessels of the young men are holy even when it is an ordinary journey. How much more today will their vessels be holy?" 6. So the priest gave him the holy bread, for the was no bread there but the bread of the Presence, which is removed from before the Lord, to be replaced by hot bread on the day it is taken away.

거룩한 빵을 함부로 내어 줄 수 없다는 것을 알았는지 다윗은 자신이 3일 동안 여인을 가까이 하지 않아서 자기 몸은 정결하다고 합니다. 그러니까 자기는 떡을 얻어 먹을 수 있는 최소한의 요건을 충족했다고 하는 거죠.

제사장은 그러면 곧 폐기될 떡이 있으니 그거라도 먹어라, 하면서 건네게 됩니다.

그렇게 하여 다윗은 제사상에 올린 빵을 얻어 먹게 되는데요. 이럴 때는 율법보다 자비를 강조하면서 융통성을 발휘하는데 사무엘은 왜그렇게 사울에게 발작을 했는지 이해가 안 갑니다.

2. 도엑의 신고

다윗이 떡도 얻어 먹더니 이번에는 무기를 요청합니다. 그런 와중에 에돔 사람, 즉 이스라엘 사람이 아닌 이방인 도엑이 다윗을 유심히 보다가 사울에게 일러 바칩니다.

다윗은 급히 나와 아무것도 못 챙겼으니 왕의 일이 급하다며 무기를 달라고 합니다. 그렇게 둘러댄 거죠.

7. Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD. His name was Doeg the Edomite, the chief of Saul's herdsmen.

 8. Then David said to Ahimelech, "THen have you not here a spear or a sword at hand? For I have brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required haste." 9 AND THE priest said, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you struck down in the Valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you will take that, take it, for there is none but that here." And David said, "There is none like that' give it to me."

그런데 참으로 신기한 것이, 제사장은 다윗이 골리앗과 상대해서 이겨서 얻어 낸 골리앗의 칼을 무기로 받게 됩니다. 신성한 물건처럼 보자기에 쌓여 있었는데 다윗 입장에서는 이보다 더 좋은 무기가 없던 겁니다.

아무리 생각해도 제사장은 짐짓 모른척 하면서 다윗을 도와준 것으로 보입니다. 그러나 훗날 도엑의 밀고로 제사장 집안은 몰살을 당하게 됩니다. 이런 것을 감안하면, 그냥 의심없이 다윗에게 전적으로 속았다고 볼 수 있을 것 같기도 합니다.

3. 다윗의 또 도망

제사장에게 떡을 얻어 먹고 무기를 얻은 후 다윗은 가드 왕 아기스에게로 도망갑니다. 이것도 참으로 특이한 선택입니다.  블레셋은 이스라엘의 적국인데다 다윗은 이들의 장수 골리앗을 죽인 자이기 때문입니다.

 

10 And David rose and fled that day from Saul and went to Achish the king of Gath.11 And the servants of Achish said to him, "Is not this David the king of the land? Did they not sing to one another of him in dances.

 

 'Saul has struck down his thousands, and David his ten thousands?"

12 AND David took these words to heart and was much afraid of Achish the king of Gath. 13. So he changed his behaviour before them made marks on the doors of the gate and let his spittle run down his beard. 14 THEN Achish said to his servants, "Behold, you see the man is mad. Why then have you brought him to me? 15 Do I lack madmen, that you have my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?"

4. 다윗의 미치광이 전략

아기스의 신하들은 다윗을 알아보고 이 사람이 이스라엘의 왕이 아니냐고 합니다. 사람들이 사울은 천천이오 다윗은 만만이라고 한 자라고 합니다. 이미 이웃 적국에서도 다윗의 명성이 대단했던 겁니다. 다윗은 이 말을 듣고 매우 불안해 합니다. 블레셋 사람들에게 자신들이 원수처럼 여겨진다는 생각을 한 것이죠. 

 

그래서 다윗은 미친 사람인 척 행동하기 시작합니다. 대문짝에 글을 긁적이고 침을 질질 흘리면서 헤벌레한 모습이죠. 그러자 아기스 왕은 신하들에게 이 미친 사람을 왜 내게 데려왔느냐며 다윗을 내쫓아 버렸습니다. 다윗이 순발력이 상당히 좋은 인물은 분명해 보입니다.
