나이가 들어도 사명은 남아있다 여호수아 13장

여호수아 나이가 90 즘에 다다르니 나이는 들었는데 할 일이 많아 걱정이 가득한가 봅니다. 일단 요단 동편을 차지한 세 지파에게 분배 관한 이야기를 하고 남은 땅에 대한 책임 등을 얘기합니다. 특별한 점은 없어 보이는 장입니다.

 

여호수아도 늙고

1. Now Joshua was old and advanced in years, and the Lord said to him, "You are old and advanced in years, and there remains yet remains: all the regions of the Philistines, and all those of the Geshurites 3(from the Shihor, which is east of Egypt, northwards to the boundary of Ekron, it is counted as Canaanite; there are five rulers of Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron), and those of the Avvim, 4 in the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that belongs to the Sidonians, to Aphek, to the boundary of the Amorites, 5 and the land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon, towards the sunrise, from Baalgad below Mount Hermon to Lebo-hamath, 6 all the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth maim, even all the Sidonians. I myself will drive them out from before the people of Israel. Only allot the land to Israel for an inheritance, as I Have commanded you. 7 Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance to the nine tribes and half the tribe of Manasseh."

 

 

대략 40세 즈음에 모세에게 정권은 이양 받은 여호수아는 90세 무렵이 되어 나이가 너무 많아졌는데도 아직 정복하지 못한 땅이 있다고 합니다. 구체적으로 점령하지 못한 땅은 블레셋 사람의 땅과 그술 족속 땅, 그리고 아랏,  등인데요. 여호수아는 남은 땅을 아홉 지파와 므낫세 반 지파에게 분배하라고 명하였습니다.

 레위는 땅을 받지 않고

 

8 With the other half of the tribe of Manasseh the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastwards, as Moses the servant of the Lord gave them: 9 from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the tableland of Medeba as far as Dibon; 10 and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the boundary of the Ammonites; 11 and Gilead, and the region of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all Mount Hermon, and all Bashan to Salecah; 12 all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei(he alone was left of the remnant of the Rephaim): these Moses had struck and driven out. 13 Yet the people of Israel did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites, but Geshur and Maacath dwell in the midst of Israel to this day.

 

 14 To the tribe of Levi alone Moses gave no inheritance. The offerings by fire to the Lord God of Israel are their inheritance, as he said to him. 

 

 

모세가 점령했던 땅 등 이런저런 회상씬이 등장하는 가운데 틈틈이 계속 레위 지파 얘기를 합니다. 레위 지파는 땅을 받지 않는다. 않았다. 그런데 땅을 안 받아서 마치 대단한 손해를 본 것 같은 뉘앙스인데요. 실제로 얻은 것은 더 많잖아요. 십일조를 비롯해서 시스템적으로 훨씬 풍족했습니다. 땅을 일굴 필요도 없고 말이죠. 토지는 없어도 곳곳에 정착할 정착지도 있었고 말입니다. 소유는 안 하되 모든 것을 다 가질 수 있었습니다. 심지어 징집도 면제 대상이었습니다. 알고 보면 가장 축복받은 민족이 레위 지파인 것 같습니다. 그런데 소름 돋는 것이 레위 지파는 아버지 야곱이 저주까지 했잖아요. 그런데 모세랑 짜고 치고 복의 중심으로 바뀌면서 모든 것을 다 가졌습니다. 레위 지파 출신 모세가 다 이런 시스템을 만들어 놓은 겁니다. 

 

 

 요단강 동쪽에 정착한 세 지파

15 And Moses gave an inheritance to the tribe of the people of Reuben according to their clans. 16 So their territory was from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the tableland by Medeba; 17 with Heshbon, and all its cities that are in the tableland; Dibon, and Bamoth-ball, and Beth-baal-meon, 18 and Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath, 19 and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar on the hill of the valley, 20 and Beth-peor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth, 21 that is, all the cities of the table-land, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshnon, whom Moses defeated with the leaders of Midian, Evi and Rekem and Zur and Hur and Reba, the princes of Sihon, who lived in the land. 22 Balaam also, the son of Beor, the one who practised divination, was killed with the sword by the people of Israel among the rest of their slain. 23 And the boder of the people of Reuben was the Jordan as a boundary. THis was the inheritance of the people of Reuben, according to their clans with their cities and villages.

 

 

 24 Moses gave an inheritance also to the tribe of Gad, to the people of Gad, according to their clans. 25 Their territory was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the Ammonites, to Aroer, which is east of Rabbah, 26 and from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh and Betonim, and from Mahanaim to the territory of Debir, 27 and in the valley Beth-haram, Beth-nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, having the Jordan as a boundary, to the lower end of the Sea of Chinnereth, eastwards beyond the Jordan. 28 This is the inheritance of the people of Gad according to their clans, with their cities and villages. 

 

  29 And Moses gave an inheritance to the half-tribe of Manasseh. It was allotted to the half-tribe of the people of Manasseh according to their clans. 30 Their region extended from Mahanaim, through all Bashan, the whole kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, sixty cities, 31 and half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. These were allotted to the people of Machir the son of Manasseh for the half of the people of Machir according to their clans. 

 

  32 These are the inheritances that Moses distributed in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan east of Jericho. 33 But to the tribe of Levi Moses gave n oinheritance; the Lord God of Israel is their inheritance, just as he said to them. 

 

요단강 동쪽에 정착한 세 지파에게 분배 관련 얘기를 한 것 같은데요. 가만보면 유독 이 세 지파에 집착하는 경향이 있어 보입니다. 그래서 왜 이렇게 강조하나 봤더니, 요단강 동편은 가나안 본토 밖이며 하나님이 약속한 땅은 요단 서편입니다. 그런데 이 세 지파는 하나님이 약속한 땅이 아닌 여기가 풀이 좋고 목축 키우기 좋으니 여기서 터 잡게 해 주세요 합니다. 민수기 32장을 참고 하시고요. 모세는 처음에 화를 내다 수용하지만 계속 의심과 긴장을 하게 되는 거죠. 결국 나중에는 배신을 했다나 뭐라나.
